Chrysoprase is a cryptocrystalline gemstone variety of chalcedony that contains small quantities of nickel. Its color is normally a vibrant apple-green sometimes sprinkled with notes of brown.
Cryptocrystalline means that it is composed of crystals so fine that they cannot be seen as distinct particles under normal magnification. Chrysoprase has been considered valuable and highly desired for many years due to its color.
